Veteran Racer Shawn Reed Takes Down Stewart in First Round at NHRA Texas Fall Nationals
Top Fuel Rookie and NASCAR Hall of Famer Tony Stewart takes the 'L' in first round with a 3.817 to Reed’s 3.753
NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Tony Stewart pressed on with his rookie season in Top Fuel, piloting the TSR Mobil1 Dodge//SRT dragster. Unfortunately, he faced a tough challenge in the first round on Sunday, where he was defeated by seasoned competitor Shawn Reed, clocking a time of 3.817 compared to Reed's impressive 3.753.
Stewart, a champion in NASCAR, IndyCar, and USAC, is currently sitting in tenth place in the NHRA Mission Top Fuel points standings, with his last two races scheduled for next month.
“This was a very challenging weekend, to say the least. We shouldn’t have put ourselves in the position of needing to qualify for the event in qualifying session No. 4. It left us in a tough spot in round one of eliminations. I’m really proud of Matt Hagan and the JHG Dodge//SRT crew for getting the win today. We will look ahead to Las Vegas now.” said Stewart.
At the NHRA Texas Fall Nationals, another newcomer in the Top Fuel category made her mark: Ida Zetterström, the 2023 FIA World Top Fuel Champion. Zetterström took to the track in her JCM Racing/Dodge//SRT, facing off against her teammate Tony Schumacher in the first round of eliminations. In a thrilling matchup, Schumacher emerged victorious with a time of 3.801, while Zetterström clocked in at 4.082.
