Mustang GTD Spirit of America Honors the Brilliance of American Innovation and Performance
Ford proudly unveils the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, honoring famed racing achievements
Since its inception in 1965, the Mustang has epitomized American automotive culture, showcasing its powerful V8 engine and the legendary galloping horse emblem set against a backdrop of red, white, and blue. The Mustang GTD Spirit of America transcends mere performance; it pays tribute to the American ideals of innovation and bravery when faced with adversity.
This spirit is embodied by Craig Breedlove, a structural engineering technician in the aerospace sector, who purchased a $500 jet engine from a Korean War fighter jet. He went on to become the first individual to shatter the 500- and 600-mile-per-hour speed barriers on land.
Breedlove's groundbreaking achievements in a field largely ruled by European elites and thrill-seekers sparked inspiration for generations of American designers, engineers, and inventors, including those involved in the Mustang GTD program.
“Mustang GTD is the pinnacle of Mustang performance. Mustang GTD Spirit of America celebrates the daring behind that performance. Mustang GTD wouldn't have been possible without people like Craig Breedlove, pushing the edge of the envelope and challenging the Goliaths of the day in an all-American way.”

To bring the Mustang GTD Spirit of America to fruition, Ford Design has crafted a striking Performance White exterior adorned with twin racing stripes in Race Red and Lightning Blue, echoing the classic red, white, and blue Mustang tribar introduced in 1964. These stripes elegantly stretch along the entire length of the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, mirroring the overalls worn by Breedlove during his historic speed feats in the 1960s.
The use of exposed carbon fiber is a standout feature on the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, enhancing its aerodynamic components, such as the front splitter, rear diffuser, and spoiler. The spoiler is accentuated with Race Red end plates and proudly displays the “MUSTANG” wordmark on its underside, ensuring that trailing vehicles know exactly what has just zoomed past. Owners can choose between Race Red or exposed carbon-fiber mirror caps, while Race Red calipers come standard. Furthermore, the Mustang GTD Performance Package is included as a standard feature.
The Mustang GTD Spirit of America showcases a distinctive seat option that reimagines the sleek, all-glass cockpit experience. The seats are elegantly trimmed in leather, complemented by Dinamica inserts. Dominating the design is a striking Black Onyx, accentuated by a bold Race Red gradient stripe running down the center, while Re-Entry White trims the exterior. Subtle yet eye-catching, Victory Blue contrast stitching adds a vibrant touch throughout the interior. This captivating hue also appears as a contrasting element in various cabin features. Additionally, the paddle shifters, shift ring, and IP badge are crafted from innovative 3D-printed titanium.
The all-new 2025 Mustang GTD, including the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, represents the pinnacle of Ford's Mustang engineering. With an astonishing 815 horsepower, 664 pound-feet of torque, and a blistering top speed of 202 miles per hour, it sets an unprecedented standard for performance among street-legal Mustangs.
