Ford F-150 Lightning Supertruck EV is Ready to Take on Pikes Peak
Romain Dumas will be at the wheel of SuperTruck as it tackles the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb presented by Gran Turismo
Ford Performance is making a grand return to Pikes Peak with the all-new F-150 Lightning SuperTruck. This electric demonstrator vehicle is set to build upon the success of the SuperVan 4.2 by capturing multiple records at the 2023 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Collaborating with Ford Design and STARD Advanced Research and Development, this truck is designed to excel in extreme conditions with advanced aerodynamics that generate 6,000 pounds of downforce at 150 mph.
Equipped with optimised electric motors for peak performance, the SuperTruck features three STARD UHP 6-Phase Motors and Ultra-High Performance Li-Polymer NMC cells, delivering over 1,600 horsepower. With a triple-element front wing, headlight ducts, hood ducts, front dive-planes, side diffusers, rear diffuser, and multi-element rear wing, this vehicle maximizes aerodynamics.
Additionally, SuperTruck boasts carbon ceramic brakes, Pirelli P-Zero tires on magnesium forged wheels, and a fully custom in-board suspension system for an unparalleled performance at the 102nd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Romain Dumas, a seasoned veteran of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and the current overall record holder, will be at the helm of the SuperTruck. This will be his ninth time participating in the event and his second time doing so with Ford Performance. With his wealth of expertise and experience, Dumas is the perfect choice to pilot this exceptional vehicle.
“After a successful 2023 climb, I’m thrilled to be behind the wheel again with this team and to help push the limits of what an electric vehicle can achieve on the turns of this legendary course,” said Dumas. ”In testing, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck has surpassed my expectations, so we are hoping for some good weather to try and do something very special.”
“To make the best vehicles for our customers, our research takes us racing in the harshest and most challenging conditions – the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck is the latest example of that,” said Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance. “Our pursuit to the top of the mountain is charged by the commitment to make all our electric vehicles more capable, more advanced, and more exciting.”
Ford has a long history of dominating Pikes Peak since 1916, when a Model T conquered the 14,115 ft summit in just 28 minutes and 03 seconds. This year, Ford is determined to beat its own record set by the SuperVan 4.2 in 2023, completing the run in 8 minutes and 47.682 seconds. The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb airs on June 23.
