2025 Ford Mustang GTD Carbon Series takes the Spotlight at 24 Hours of Le Mans
The new Performance pack is essential for achieving a lap time of under 7 minutes at the Nürburgring.
The 2025 Ford #Mustang #GTD Carbon Series is like the superhero of cars, showing off its high performance, premium function, and unmatched sophistication at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It's like the car equivalent of a fancy tuxedo t-shirt - it's formal, but it's here to party.
The European debut of the Mustang GTD is truly remarkable, with enhancements such as a new Performance pack for improved agility, a driver-focused interior, and exposed carbon-fiber elements showcasing its advanced construction. The striking Chroma Flame paint further adds to its bold statement.
The GTD's Performance package makes the most significant impact. It includes dive planes and a larger splitter on the front fascia, underbody flaps, and a drag reduction system on the rear wing. These active aerodynamic elements minimize drag during straight-line driving without compromising aerodynamic grip in corners. Additionally, the Performance pack features a Lightweight package that eliminates some sound-deadening material and incorporates impressive 20-inch magnesium wheels, along with a distinctive front fascia. Although the Performance pack is showcased on the Carbon Series model, it is accessible throughout the Mustang GTD lineup.
“Many sports cars excel at one thing. But for a car to set a quick lap at the Nürburgring, it needs to be great at everything. Cornering, grip, braking, acceleration, there’s not a single area where it can’t shine,” said Mustang GTD Chief Engineer Greg Goodall. “From the lightweight carbon fiber body on every GTD to the active aerodynamics of the Performance package, we’ve learned from motorsport how to make the Mustang GTD excel everywhere, all in the quest for a sub-seven-minute lap of the Nürburgring.” The performance of a car is heavily reliant on the confidence of the driver, and the Mustang GTD excels in keeping drivers attentive and focused through every turn, chicane, and straightaway. The standard Recaro seats are well-equipped for the job, working seamlessly with the new Mustang GTD steering wheel. The GTD interior makes its debut at LeMans, marking a significant milestone for the model.
The flat-bottomed steering wheel is equipped with a thick, well-cushioned rim adorned with premium Dinamica inserts and a leather covering, as well as carbon-fiber inserts. Unique to the Mustang GTD are controls on the steering wheel for modifying the suspension stiffness and exhaust mode, enabling drivers to maintain focus on the road while altering the performance and sound of their Mustang GTD during cornering and acceleration.
Two new buttons also join the hero panel ahead of the rotary gear selector to access the Track Apps page and activate a front-axle lift function to help avoid parking lot and driveway obstacles.
Drivers also have greater control over how the standard eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle manages the supercharged 5.2-liter V8’s targeted 800-plus-horsepower, thanks to impossible-to-miss 3D-printed titanium paddle shifters. Oversized and featuring a hexagonal pattern that’s both light and gives the driver’s fingers something to grip, it’s yet another example of Ford using motorsports to improve the driving experience. Titanium trimming is also available on the rotary gear selector on the center console.
"Mustang GTD does far more than elevate the Mustang’s performance envelope. It brings a new more focused, premium feel to the cabin,” said Design Manager Anthony Colard.
Uncompromising Motorsports Elegance
The spotlight at Le Mans shines on the striking Chroma Flame paint of the Mustang GTD. Among the six standard colors available for this model - Polymimetic Gray, Race Red, Shadow Black, Frozen White, and Lightning Blue - Chroma Flame stands out as an exclusive option. The rich burgundy hue perfectly complements the Carbon Series trim.
Mustang GTD takes the Mustang's advanced software suite to the next level. With Unreal Gaming technology powering the Sync 4 infotainment system, the Mustang GTD boasts unique welcome and farewell graphics on its 13.2-inch touchscreen and 12.4-inch reconfigurable digital gauge cluster. Each of the six drive modes is tailored for the Mustang GTD, and a new Performance gauge cluster is reserved exclusively for the ultimate in Mustang performance. This cluster places the gear indicator and tachometer front and center, eliminating any unnecessary distractions. Additionally, the Mustang avatar on the My Mustang page now showcases the Mustang GTD model.
The European launch of the Mustang GTD coincides with the start of the application period for the European market. Starting at 1 P.M. CET on June 13, potential customers in the European Union can visit TheMustangGTD.com and apply to buy the boldest Mustang yet.
