Buick Grand National and GNX back for 2015
It’s true that General Motors may have sent some of the late but great Buick muscle cars to the drag strip in the sky but to the tried and true Buick purists of the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s, nameplates like Riviera, GSX, Grand National and GNX may rest in peace - buy they will live never truly die.
Time has come to rejoice Buick diehards; your prayers have finally been answered. Putting an end to the less-than exciting, geriatric fan base Buick had become synonymous with; the brass at the General have indeed green lit the resurrection of not only the Grand National but - wait for it - the GNX as well.
Althought specific styling ques have yet to be releaved, we're told the 2015 Buick Grand National and GNX will come in sedan trim only and will be underpinned by GM's new rear-drive Alpha platform from the Cadillac ATS which is also believed to carry the third-generation Cadillac CTS and the sixth-generation Camaro.
Harking back to their roots the Grand National will be powered by your choice of a turbocharged 2.0l four banger or a 3.6l V6, both barrowed from the Cadillac ATS as well. The GNX is said to come dressed in black only with the twin-turbo 3.6l V6 mill good for 400hp. Tranny choices include sticks for the turbocharged cars and automatics for any flavor. We hear GM’s new eight-speed tranny and all-wheel drive will also make the option list.
Stay tuned as we’ll be posting more news on the Grand National and GNX as it becomes available.
